📚 "The Healing System of the Mucusless Diet. Healing by Fasting and Fruits" - Arnold Ehret
Arnold Ehret's book is a classic work of the early 20th century that is still popular among supporters of raw foodism and naturopathy. Ehret argues that almost all diseases, aging, and excess weight are caused by the accumulation of "mucus" and toxins in the body from improper food.
I have read this book a couple of times. And I understand that intuitively and from his own experience he was right. This is a classic and I recommend it to everyone.
🦠 The main idea: Mucus is the root of all diseases
Ehret believed that the human body is a complex tubular system that is clogged by waste from "unnatural" food. This clogging, which he called "mucus," interferes with blood circulation and the work of internal organs, causing disease. His famous formula of life looks like this:
V = P — O (Vital force = Energy — Obstacles/Clogs).
The less mucus and waste in the body, the higher the vital tone and the fewer diseases. Meat, milk, bread, cereals, and especially boiled and processed food, in his opinion, create this "mucus."
🥗 What nutrition is best: The "mucusless" diet
Ehret advocated nutrition that does not form mucus and helps cleanse the body. The basis of the diet should be:
- Fruits and berries: First of all, ripe, raw, and starch-free. Ehret considered them ideal food, providing "organic carbohydrates" (grape sugar) for energy.
- Vegetables and greens: Especially leafy salads and non-starchy vegetables. They act as a "broom" sweeping mucus out of the intestines.
- Nuts and seeds: Allowed, but in small quantities.
What is excluded: All animal products (meat, eggs, milk), starchy vegetables (potatoes), grains and cereals, as well as any refined and heat-treated products.
🧘 What lifestyle is best: Fasting and cleansing
Nutrition is not the only aspect. Ehret believed that the body needs rest from digesting food in order to direct energy to removing toxins.
- Periodic fasting: This is a key method of treatment. Ehret argued that fasting is "nature's best healing remedy," which launches the process of deep cleansing. I also have such positive experience: 🧘 My experience of 21 days of fasting only on water. - Separate eating and drinking: Do not drink during meals, as this dilutes gastric juice and interferes with digestion.
- Gradual transition: An abrupt transition to the diet can be harmful. Ehret recommended a transition period (sometimes up to 8 weeks), during which one can eat stewed vegetables, beans, nuts to prepare the body.
- Positive attitude: Ehret also noted that the state of mind affects diseases, so harmony and moderation are important.
💎 Modern continuation in Ehret's work of healing
In the modern world, Ehret has many followers. For example, doctor Mikhail Sovetov, although he does not call himself an adherent and follower of Ehret, his approach and methods are very similar.
