🥥 Benefits of coconuts

Green coconuts and coconut water are a real natural isotonic. The main benefit lies in the unique electrolyte composition and low calorie content, while there is practically no fat in the water (unlike the pulp of mature coconuts). It is desirable to drink coconut water chilled. In the air the water quickly oxidizes and loses vitamins (within 2–3 hours).

The pulp of a young green coconut (often called "coconut jelly") is not a dessert but a full-fledged superfood. In composition it differs radically from mature pulp (copra): it is low-fat, soft, and rich in fiber.

What makes young coconut pulp especially beneficial:

  • Restores water-salt balance. Coconut water contains potassium, sodium, magnesium, and chlorine in ideal proportions. This helps after workouts, with dehydration, or in heat faster than ordinary water.
  • Beneficial for the heart and blood pressure. High potassium content (more than in a banana) helps remove excess sodium, which gently lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of strokes. Given that with modern nutrition many have an excess of sodium, this is very useful.
  • Powerful antioxidant. It contains cytokinins and phenolic compounds that fight free radicals, slowing cell aging and reducing inflammation.
  • Low glycemic index. The drink is suitable even for diabetics, as it does not cause sharp spikes in blood sugar.
  • Gently cleanses the intestines and supports digestion (prebiotic). It contains many enzymes (ferments) and soluble fiber, which, like a brush, collect slugs and serve as food for beneficial bacteria. Enzymes (ferments) and soluble fiber improve peristalsis and the absorption of nutrients. At the same time, unlike mature coconut, the liver is not loaded with fats.
  • Gives instant energy. Carbohydrates in the jelly are quickly absorbed, restoring strength after heat or physical exertion, without heaviness in the stomach.
  • Nourishes skin and joints. Thanks to hyaluronic acid in the composition, this pulp helps retain moisture in tissues, improving skin elasticity from within.
  • Contains rare microelements. It has a lot of manganese (for bones) and copper (for blood), as well as almost the entire group of B vitamins, which supports the nervous system.
  • Satisfies hunger better than water. Due to fiber it creates volume in the stomach, so it is often used in light diets (while the calorie content is only about 150–180 kcal per 100 g, versus 350+ for mature).

The main difference from mature: In dry and hard copra — 90% fats (oil). In young pulp — almost only carbohydrates and water. Therefore it can be eaten without fear, even if you monitor cholesterol.

Tip: Eat it with a spoon directly from the shell within 15–20 minutes after opening. In the air the jelly quickly darkens and becomes rubbery.
